Wedding Bells



According to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), civil marriages taking place in the Balearics now double the number of Catholic ones. Last year of the 4,349 marriages which took place, 2,972 were civil ceremonies, whilst 1,356 took place through the Catholic Church, with 21 other religious, non-Catholic weddings held.

The region also has the third highest total of non-Spanish weddings behind the North African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. Of the total weddings which took place in 2009 1,655 had at least one partner who was foreign.
